Merritt Island (9-2) vs West Melbourne (9-1): The BCYFCA Senior Super Bowl will take place 7pm November 12th at McClarty Stadium. West Melbourne will be going for a 3-Peat after winning the previous two Super Bowls on the Senior Level.  They are facing a fiesty Merritt Island team who has turned it on late in the season by upsetting Rockledge and Viera to make it to the Super Bowl. Merritt Island avenged a 20-12 loss to Rockledge to defeat them in the opening round of the playoffs 14-8. They then went on to avenge a 32-0 clobbering from Viera to Upset the previously unbeaten Hawks 18-0. The Mustangs showed great pride and determination and will need that same mindset to knock off the two time Defending Champions.
West Melbourne will be without Star QB DJ Arroyo who has been out 2 weeks with an injury. QB Bowden has stepped right in at the helm and showed he knew the Offense when Arroyo went down. Bowden has great Football IQ and picked up the Offense from paying attention during practice and took full advantage of the reps to keep his team on track. The kid has won 3 Super Bowls and has waited his turn patiently while still being a leader on and off the field.
RB Davis Mallinger  part of the Super Bowl Champions from last season has waited his turn as well and came into this season bigger, faster and determined to win another one. RB Tae Tae Farmer aka “Farmer Island” leads team in Interceptions with 7 int and one of the top rushers in Brevard County. ATH Carlos Estranza has moved from tailback  down to the FB and excelling at it and doing what’s best for the offense while also leading the defense at MLB. Elijah Light Hill Barber aka “Bear” is just unstoppable on the Dline 220lbs and can flat out get to the ball He is an Hotbed All American candidate and can earn his Golden Ticket on Saturday.
Offensive Lineman AJ Libatore returns from last years Sr team and leads the hogs up front! One of the biggest leaders on the team helping the other lineman learn the system.
DE/WR John Culver aka “Wes Welker” transferred from RB last year to WR and does nothing but catch TD’s. He also locks down the outside at the DE position. He has been asked to switch sides week in week out and does nothing but make tackles behind the line. LB Niko Taylor returned from last years team, and has been lights out. He is asked at times to go in at Fullback. When there is a big hit he is usually part of it. The Defensive Caption Dougie locks up the middle of the field and keeps this team clicking on all cylinders.
By the Numbers: Merritt Island has outscored teams 215-74 scoring 19.5 Points per game and allowing 6.7 Points allowed. West Melbourne has won 9 games in a row and outscored its opponents 304-43 during that stretch. West Melbourne average 33.6 Points per game and 7.9 Points allowed during the season.
