The Merritt Island Mustangs will play their first out of state opponent when it battles Avon Eagles (OH). The game will take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports on Thursday August 24th. The Eagles will have to replace most of their offensive production as RB Mason McLemore and QB Matt Kelly both graduated. JR QB Ryan Maloy and Jr RB Aaron Endrizal has some experience with the Eagle Offense, as well as SR TE Vlasi Pappas. Avon finished last season 10-1 and was eliminated from round one of the Division II State Tournament in Ohio.

The Mustangs finished last season 7-4 and were eliminated from the FHSAA Playoffs in the first round.This season, Merritt Island returns SR ATH Deben Peterson, SR QB Mason Denaburg to lead the Offense.  The strength of the Mustangs is upfront on the Offensive Line with leaders SR OT James Mclean, JR OT Mason Davis, JR OT Wyatt Ashley, and SR RG Terry Haynes. The Stout Defense will be anchored by experienced Linebackers. SR MLB Andrew Beardall, SR LB Dylan Friedmann, SR LB Brendon White, and LB Sayvion Peterson. Look for a very exciting game under the Disney sky 8pm August 24th at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
