SPRING FOOTBALL ROUND-UP
The Hawks defeated Spruce Creek 35-14 at Home May 18th in the 2016 Spring Game. The Hawks regrouped after going down 14-0 in the 1st Qtr and the defense shut things down for the remainder of the game. The Offense struggled the first Half as they are working in a lot of young players. The Hawks are not as explosive as they were last year but that is to be expected with the loss of WR Tre Nixon and WR Alexander Cabrera. Very impressed with Quinton Richard, Noah Cherichel and Travis Jones who will be called upon to be the explosive players needed in the Hawk Offense. LB Brandon Mays and DL Marco Foreman led the way on defense and will be joined by LB Connor Kaminski who had to sit out due to Transfer rules.
Calm down folks…The Hawks struggled for most of the game against Spruce Creek, but its only the Spring. No need to write them off just yet. Plenty of weights to lift and Training to take place before the Season kicks off in the Fall. The Future is bright in Viera and this Team has promise and the Opportunity to prove people wrong. Hawks will play Rockledge on August 26th 7pm.
Cocoa Beach showed grit and determination scoring 4TD by 2017 RB David Demeter, who had 216 rushing yards. Satellite Dynamic Duo at Quarterback Alex Nicks ran for two scores and Noah Mumme had 2 TD passes as the Scorpions won 34-26. Satellite ATH Luis Morris rushed for 120 yards and 2TD. Satellite has been the surprise team of the Spring and are much improved. The Scorpions will kick off the Season at home August 19th against Holy Trinity.
Cocoa High have more size upfront and dominated the play throughout Spring Practice. DT Ian Newton and Joaquan Lennear have proven difficult to block as the Offense looks to replace OT Jawaan Taylor who has moved on to the University of Florida. When the Tigers do get time to pass, it is throwing into tight coverage from DB Marquees Parker and DB Cameron James.
The addition of QB Brad Canarie has the Tigers stretching the field this spring. Tigers have more weapons at Receiver this year in WR Ian Edwards and ATH Qunelius Phillips who have both proved to be reliable wideouts. The Tigers “Orange & Black ” intrasquad scrimmage was canceled on May 17 due to weather. Tigers will play August 19th at Home against Clearwater High 7pm.
