Summer Workouts
SUMMER GRIND!!!
The Summer Grind is Real!!! Some plans work and some others not so much. One thing that cant be denied is that Fall success depends on what happens in the Spring and Summer workouts. Many call this the Off-Season I call it the Offer-Season as this is the period where most Colleges give out offers and get kids on their radar for recruitment. If a High School Coach tells his Athlete, “Just play on Friday they will find you.” That Coach doesnt have a grasp on College Recruitment in 2016. Gone are the days of just playing on Friday night and hoping a College Recruiter sees you from the stands. Competition is so great for Scholarships now and Athletes must utilize all tools available to get themselves on a recruiters radar.
Its not going to be cheap but investing in Satellite Camps and College tours could very well be the difference in grabbing a Coach attention to earn a $250,000 Scholarship. Like anything in life we must adapt or get left behind. Many in Brevard have added College Tours to their Summer Programs. Viera, Cocoa, Palm Bay, Merritt Island, Heritage, Titusville, and Holy Trinity have all added tours to their Programs. By doing so, they are building relationships with College Coaches to come visit their schools in the Fall and further helping their kids chances of making it to the next level.
We stopped in on Holy Trinity Summer Program and Coach Hooks was on Tour with some of his top Athletes to gain those offers. Holy Trinity planned visits are Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Ole Miss, NC State, Florida State,Georgia State, Missouri,Valdosta State, Middle Tennessee, and Stetson. The trip has already earned and two offers for Jr ATH Jashaun Corbin(his 6th Offer) from Georgia State and University of Tennessee.
The Satellite Scorpions are lifting and running during their Summer Conditioning Program with hopes of improving on a 2-7-1 record last year. This season the Scorpians have already taken the step in the right direction with a Spring Victory over Cocoa Beach and showing that they might have some play makers this season.
We caught up with Coach Mark Carstens and he gave us a list of Key Players that will help carry the Scorpions this season; Leading the way is 2017 DT Dillon Fogle who is one of the top Defensive Lineman in Brevard County. Roaming the Secondary will be Sr. FS Luke Phillips, Jr. SS Caden Larkin, and Sr.CB/WR Erik Askeland. Jr.MLB Andrew “Nunu” Abendroth will anchor the Defense. On Offense Sr.QB/WR Alex Nicks and Jr.QB Nick Mumme return to form a great mix at the position. Protecting their blindside is 6’4 300lbs Sr OT Joseph Schwarz who will also open running lanes for last years team leading rusher Sr.RB Zachary Switzer. Joining in the backfield will be Jr.RB/WR Luis Morris. If you look on the field and think you are seeing Double dont worry ….thats only the twins Jr.ATH Zarius Cobb & Jr.ATH Zurius Cobb making plays. The future looks promising for the Scorpions and they are moving one bench press at a time.
